Savannah BBQ is a fairly new restaurant which opened at the beginning of the year. It is located on the first floor of Panorama Mall.
Earlier this month I met up with @beingLayla_a an Omani fashion blogger who recently returned to Oman after being in Qatar for the past several years. She was invited by Savannah BBQ to review the food and I was her plus one (lucky me).
I seriously need to learn how to pose, all I do is smile or in this case grin LOL
The first thing that caught my eye is the decor, you can tell that it is inspired by Africa. The wood and the vibrant colours give that lively African vibe!
Oh and you know that you’ve landed in East Africa when you see the waiters dressed in Masai (the traditional custom of an ethnic group in East Africa) and the drums behind him are often played as entertainment! Kids love it!
Being the visual person that I am, I simply love when menus have pictures of the actual dishes that they serve.
While we waited for our order we were served with fried cassava aka mohogo chips
We ordered the Savannah Salad which is freshly tossed coloured peppers drizzled in a creamy sauce 3.600 RO
and the Kamba Choma which is barbacued prawns served and lemon butter sauce 4.300 RO.
We enjoyed both dishes, I found the portions to be a good size well it was enough for Layla and I to share.
For the main dish I had the Seafood with Ugali(6.800RO), in case you are wondering ugali is a dough like consistency made with cassava. The seafood is cooked in a coconut curry sauce laid on a bed of spinach. It was delicious by far my favourite dish just looking at the picture makes me crave it.
Layla choose the BBQ Pweza which is barbecued octopus served with french fries and tamarind sauce. Unfortunately I didn’t taste her dish but she had a taste of both dishes although her pweza was quite good and she preferred the Ugali dish.
We ended our meal with a healthy choice of fruit salad which Layla and I both needed after the full course meal we had.
I highly recommend you to try dining at Savannah BBQ especially if you haven’t tasted Eastern African food. The atmosphere is great, service was good.
Anyway I am looking forward to going back to have me some ugali.
Disclaimer: Although I was invited to Savannah BBQ, this post is not sponsored by them and my views are my own.
