Salam Alikoyum, which is Arabic for peace and blessings be upon you.
My name is Mayya Al Said aka The Sewist.
I am so excited for you and really happy to meet you vitrually. The Sewist is a reflection of my own desire to live a positive life and inspire other women to lead a life they are passionate about.
I am a 30 something, mother of 2, workout junkie, bookworm, bag addict, crafter & makeup lover. “The Sewist” is not your typical blog simply because I am not your typical Arab woman.
Born to an Omani father and a French mother, I speak four languages (Arabic, English, French & Swahili) and used to be a professional violinist in the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra. My fashion sense is modest and chic, I have been sporting the hijab aka headscarf since I was 16 watch my hijab story.
I go by “The Sewist” as I used to blog at Sew Chic and Unique (SCU). A crafty blog I started back in 2008, where I shared my crafty adventures. I love meeting new people and always end up offering some kind of advice or recommendation which is why blogging is perfect for me.
In 2009, I started my Youtube channel being the first Omani woman to do so with the goal of changing the image the west have of the muslim woman. I love that I am able to get real through my videos by sharing hijab tutorials, beauty tips, and DIY projects. The inspirational series called “The World through my eyes” is where I get to share my views/advice on life.
I contribute monthly as columnist for Y Magazine for “The Voice of Oman”. I have been featured in various local media publications (Al Mara, The Woman, HI) and in July 2015 I was invited to be part for Life as it is a radio show which aired during the month of ramadhan.
ARE YOU CRAZY?
Is what everyone said when i told them I had quit my full time job to become a Life Coach at Whispers of Serenity.
For the longest time I didn’t know what my passion was until I truly listened to myself, what made me happy, what I could spend hours doing which was always helping others.
Inspiring them to live thier life to the fullest and one thing lead to another and I am now doing what I love and loving what I do.
