Year after year the one thing you will find on my new year resolution is
1- “Join the gym and get fit”
If you are anything like me then getting fit and healthy is on you new year resolution list too, like EVERY YEAR?..Am I right?
You start off great, inspired and excited to get started.
Thinking to yourself, “YES! This is the year where I am going to reach my goal I can feel it..”
And then a couple of weeks down the line….life happens….
or that’s what we say…at least its what I say
We are now in February and you may or may not have seen seen my frequent visits to the gym. Anyway I am happy to report that I have completed a month of going to the gym consistently! *happy dance*
Yes it may not be much to celebrate but this for me is a milestone and I am going to celebrate it!
So today I am sharing how I did it..
and not quit this time!
For the longest time my WHY was so that I could look good and that was my biggest mistake. Focusing only on the physical and that is to be blamed on social media that in order to love yourself or be happy well you have to look good!
I realized this after my divorce. I decided that it was time to take care of myself so one of the first things I did was join the gym. Little did I know that it was the BEST decision I had made.
Soon after joining the gym I noticed that I wasn’t feeling as stressed as I used to be, I was sleeping better, thinking clearer and overall feeling good about myself. So this for me was definitely a win/win situation for a better mindset and a healthier/fit body!
Its worth spending some time thinking about WHY you want to get fit? and WHAT will motivate you to continue?
Believe me you will need it on days where you want to give up..
Exactly, it is not about getting fit for an occasion, like your brother/sister/friend or your wedding.
Unfortunately which is what many of us tend to do. As mentioned in the point above try to change the way you relate to fitness so that it becomes part of your life.
If not then after the occasion has passed, all that hard work will go to waste! You will go back to your old habits and will wait for another occasion to push you to take care of yourself. Which is probably what you have been doing for the past years..
It took YEARS for you to get this way so don’t expect a quick fix solution in a matter of days or even months.
Give yourself at least 6 months of working out CONSISTENTLY to see results (depending on what you are starting off with). Trust in the process and remember your WHY.
The most common excuse is that we don’t have time, well MAKE THE TIME. Schedule, block do whatever you have to do to make sure you get it done.
I can’t stress how this is a GAME CHANGER!
Yes it will mean saying no to social gatherings, or postponing it to after your workout. You have to think go it as ‘This is me time’ and if you change nothing then nothing will change. It is that simple.
Did you know that you can workout regularly but if you don’t eat right then it is all in vain? I bet you didn’t..
To see a change in your body 20% relies on your workout and 80% on your nutrition! YES 80%!
When I began my fitness journey I would refuse certain foods and I always got told “Ahh Mayya you can eat whatever you want as long as you exercise, it’s fine”…erm nopes it’s not!
It makes sense doesn’t it?
I mean I workout hard at the gym only to come home reward myself with pizza and ice cream? REALLY?! – I don’t think so
Finding a place where you feel supported is of upmost importance.
I started off at Horizon Fitness then decided to workout at home following some home-based workout programs and I did that for a couple of years.
At the end of 2018 I wanted to challenge myself further and knew that I needed to get back into the gym. I reached out to Jasmine For Her and I am happy to say that I have agreed to sponsor me for 6 months to support me in my fitness journey.
You have probably seen my visits on instagram and snapchat if you haven’t you can watch the highlights on my story.
How do you stay committed to your fitness goals?
What motivates you to take care of yourself?
